How to Pay for the App Store and Apple Subscriptions
In the App Store, what matters is not your bank but your Apple Account region. Here is how card country and account country relate, and how to set up payment the right way.

Apple subscriptions are trickier than Netflix or Spotify. There, it is enough for the service to accept your card. The App Store has one more rule you cannot get around: the payment method must be from the same country as your Apple Account. That is why many people get a foreign card first and then wonder why their iPhone rejects it. Let us look at how it works and when a Singapore-issued card really fits iCloud+, Apple Music and App Store purchases.
The main rule: card country = account country
Every Apple Account (formerly Apple ID) has a country or region. It determines which store you see, the price currency, the available apps and payment methods. Apple accepts only payment methods that belong to the account's country and asks for a billing address in that same country.
- An account with the Singapore region — a card issued in Singapore works, such as a virtual Visa with a Singapore BIN.
- An account with the Russia or United States region — you cannot add a Singapore card; Apple will reject it.
- An account in another country — you need a card from that country.
The payment options for the Russia region have shrunk noticeably since 2022, and the list changes from time to time. The current options are always shown in your account settings on iPhone — the same place where you add a card.
Only enter truthful information when registering and in your payment details. We do not advise inventing addresses or working around Apple's rules: Apple may restrict purchases or disable the account, and you would lose access to everything you bought. A Singapore card is an honest fit for people who already have a Singapore-region Apple Account — for example, if you lived, work or live in Singapore.
Who a Singapore-BIN card is right for
Orris Universal is a virtual Visa Signature card issued in Singapore (a Singapore BIN) with a US dollar account. By card country it fits a Singapore-region Apple Account: Apple lists most credit and debit cards among the payment methods for Singapore. But mind the currency: Singapore App Store prices are in Singapore dollars (SGD), while the card is in USD, so every charge carries a 3% conversion fee. The card supports 3‑D Secure, but as with any store, the final decision about accepting a particular card is Apple's.
- You have a Singapore-region Apple Account and your previous card stopped working or expired.
- You moved to Singapore or spend long periods there and are switching your account to the Singapore region.
- You want a separate card just for Apple subscriptions to keep their costs under control.
If your account is in the Russia or US region and you are not going to change it, a Singapore card will not work for App Store purchases. You can still add it to Apple Wallet and pay with your phone abroad — see our post about Apple Pay and Google Pay abroad.
How to add the card to your Apple Account
- Sign up for Orris with email or Telegram and top up your balance with USDT (TRC-20, TON or ERC-20). The top-up fee is 4%, 1 USDT = $1. Top-ups via SBP and Russian cards are coming later.
- Pay the card issue fee from your balance — 1,990 ₽ once, no monthly fee. Card details usually appear in your dashboard within seconds.
- Move an amount with a buffer to the card — free from your balance. Keep in mind that each successful payment costs $0.50.
- On iPhone, open Settings → your name → Payment & Shipping and add a payment method. On a Mac, open the App Store → your account → Account Settings.
- Enter the card number, expiry date, CVC and billing address. If the issuer asks for 3‑D Secure confirmation, complete it.
- Make the card your primary payment method so subscription renewals are charged to it.
When you add a card, Apple may run a small verification authorization. So do not add an empty card — keep at least a little money on it.
If you need to change your account region
You can change your Apple Account country, but not at any moment — and it makes sense to do so when you have actually moved. Apple lists the conditions in its support articles; here are the main ones:
- Spend your account balance. While there is store credit from gift cards or top-ups, you cannot change country. If the balance is less than the price of any item, you will need to contact Apple Support.
- Cancel subscriptions that block the change and wait for the paid period to end. Apple shows which ones block it when you try to switch.
- Wait for memberships, pre-orders, movie rentals, Season Passes and refunds that are still being processed.
- You may need to leave Family Sharing — being in a group can prevent a country change.
- Have a payment method from the new country — Apple may ask for one.
After changing region, some previously purchased apps, music or movies may no longer be available to redownload if they are not in the new store. Before switching, download what you need and back up to iCloud or a computer.
iCloud+, Apple Music and other subscriptions
Apple subscriptions are paid with the same payment method as App Store purchases — you do not need to add a card for each service separately. Your active subscriptions and renewal dates are in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
- iCloud+. If a renewal fails, Apple does not delete your data right away, but your storage drops back to the free tier and new photos and backups stop uploading. Make sure the card has a buffer before the renewal date.
- Apple Music. A family subscription is paid by the Family Sharing organizer, and if purchase sharing is on, their payment method also covers purchases by family members.
- Apple One. The bundle replaces individual subscriptions; when you switch to it, Apple usually cancels the redundant ones itself, but check the list.
- In-app subscriptions — from photo editors to productivity apps — are also billed through the App Store and appear in the same list.
Prices for Apple subscriptions depend on the region and change from time to time, so check them in the App Store itself. For a Singapore-region account they are in Singapore dollars, so with a USD card you pay the subscription price, 3% for conversion and $0.50 per charge. The USD amount shifts slightly with the exchange rate — keep a buffer on the card.
Why Apple declines a payment
- The account region does not match the card country. The most common reason: a Singapore card will not work in an account from another region — Russian, US or any other.
- The billing address does not match the card data. Apple asks for an address in the account's country and, like other stores, may check it against the issuer's records.
- There is an unpaid balance on the account. If a previous charge failed, Apple will not let you make new purchases until you pay it.
- Not enough money on the card including fees — the SGD price is converted to dollars at the current rate, plus 3% for conversion and $0.50 per transaction.
- A filter on prepaid and virtual cards. Different stores use them, so nobody can promise a card will always be accepted.
Each declined payment costs $0.60, so do not tap Retry many times in a row — find the cause first. More details in why card payments get declined.
Tip: a separate card for Apple
Orris lets you issue several cards. If you keep a separate card just for your Apple Account, you can see at once how much goes to iCloud+, Apple Music and in-app subscriptions, and an unnecessary subscription is easier to spot. Just remember: freezing a card does not cancel a subscription — it only declines new payments. Cancel subscriptions in your iPhone settings. The same approach works well for Netflix and Spotify and for ChatGPT Plus.
FAQ
Can I add an Orris card to a Russian or US Apple Account?
No. Apple only accepts payment methods from the account's country or region. Orris Universal is issued in Singapore, so it works with a Singapore-region account.
What happens to my purchases if I change region?
Purchases stay in your account, but some apps, music and movies may not be available to redownload if they are not in the new country's store. Download what you need before switching.
Why can't I change my account country?
Usually because of a remaining account balance or an active subscription. Spend the balance, cancel subscriptions and wait for the paid period to end.
Can I pay for iCloud+ with this card?
Yes, if your Apple Account is in the Singapore region: iCloud+ is charged to the account's primary payment method. The price is in SGD, so a 3% conversion fee applies. Keep a buffer on the card before the renewal date.
How much does the card cost?
Issuing it costs 1,990 ₽ once, with no monthly fee. Each successful payment is $0.50. All fees are on the pricing page.
Summary
In the App Store, your Apple Account region decides everything: the payment method must be from the same country. A Singapore-issued virtual Visa is an honest fit for a Singapore-region account — for App Store purchases, iCloud+, Apple Music and in-app subscriptions; prices there are in SGD, so budget for the 3% conversion fee. If your account is in another region, changing it makes sense after a real move — and only once you have spent your balance and cancelled subscriptions. Enter truthful details, keep a buffer on the card and cancel unneeded subscriptions in your iPhone settings.
