How to Pay for Claude Pro and the Anthropic API
Claude doesn't accept Russian bank cards, so you pay with a card issued abroad. Here's how to get Claude Pro and buy Anthropic API credits with an Orris virtual Visa — and how to avoid wasting money on declined payments.

Anthropic's Claude is one of the strongest AI models for writing, document analysis and coding. The free tier doesn't last long: message limits run out at the worst moment, and the most capable models and advanced features are reserved for paid plans. The catch is that you can't pay with a card from a Russian bank. This guide covers how to pay for Claude Pro and API credits with a foreign virtual card, what to check first and why a payment sometimes fails.
What exactly you can pay for
Anthropic has two separate ways to pay, and it's worth not mixing them up:
- A claude.ai subscription — Pro and Max for individuals, plus team plans. It's a monthly automatic charge like any other subscription.
- API credits — prepaid funds in Anthropic's developer console. They're used up as you call the models through the API: in your own apps, bots, scripts and developer tools.
The subscription and the API are billed separately: Pro doesn't include API credits, and API credits don't include a subscription. Current prices are always listed on Anthropic's site and may change, so check the checkout page.
Subscription or API: which one
- Pro suits you if you chat with Claude in the browser or app: writing, working through documents, everyday tasks. Limits are much higher than on the free tier.
- Max is for people who outgrow Pro's limits: it costs more but is built for very heavy use.
- The API is for building Claude into your own product, bot or workflow. You pay only for what you use, but spending depends on request volume and the model you pick.
Many developers use both: the subscription for day-to-day chat, the API for automation. Anthropic updates plans and limits from time to time, so compare them on the official pricing page before you pay.
Why a Russian card doesn't work
Anthropic takes payments through an international payment processor. International services don't accept Mir, and Russian-issued Visa and Mastercard cards don't process international transactions, so the checkout usually rejects them. You need a card issued outside Russia that supports 3‑D Secure and recurring charges.
Orris Universal fits the bill: a virtual Visa Signature issued in Singapore (a Singapore BIN), with a USD account, valid for 3 years with a monthly limit of $50,000. You can also add it to Apple Pay or Google Pay, but for Claude you just enter the card details.
How to pay for Claude Pro, step by step
- Sign up for Orris with email or Telegram.
- Top up your balance with USDT on TRC-20, TON or ERC-20. The fee is 4%, and 1 USDT = $1.
- Pay the card issue fee from your balance — 1,990 ₽ once. No monthly fee.
- Wait for the card details in your dashboard — usually a few seconds.
- Move the subscription amount plus a small buffer onto the card. Balance-to-card transfers are free.
- On claude.ai, open your account settings, go to billing and choose Pro.
- Enter the card number, expiry date and CVC. Fill in the address if the form asks for it.
- Confirm the payment in the 3‑D Secure window if it appears.
If you subscribe in the Claude mobile app, the payment goes through the App Store or Google Play. In that case your Apple ID or Google account country must match the card's country — for a Singapore card that means a Singapore-region account, where prices are in SGD and a 3% conversion fee applies. Paying on the website is simpler, and you manage the subscription right in Claude's settings.
How to top up Anthropic API credits
For developers the flow is similar, except you pay in Anthropic's developer console rather than on claude.ai:
- Sign in to the console and open the Billing section.
- Add your Orris card as a payment method using the details from your dashboard.
- Choose how many credits to buy. Put a little extra on the card first: tax may be added depending on the address you enter.
- Confirm the payment. The credits appear on your organization's balance in the console.
The console lets you turn on auto-reload when credits run low. It's convenient, but keep an eye on the card balance: if there isn't enough on the card, the auto-reload is declined, and a declined transaction costs $0.60. A dedicated card for the API keeps development spending separate from personal subscriptions.
How to check the payment went through
After paying for a subscription, claude.ai settings show the plan name and the next renewal date; after an API top-up, the console shows the new credit balance. In the Orris dashboard, the card history lists the charge itself and the separate transaction fee. If the money was taken but the plan didn't update, don't pay again: wait a few minutes and refresh — the status sometimes updates with a delay.
The card only solves the payment part. Where Claude is available and on what terms is up to Anthropic. At the time of writing Russia isn't on Anthropic's list of supported countries — check that list and the service's usage policies before paying.
Why a payment might be declined
Anthropic generally accepts cards issued in many countries, and Singapore is on its list of supported countries. But the merchant makes the final decision, so declines do happen. Common reasons:
- Insufficient funds. Any tax and the $0.50 transaction fee need to fit within the card balance.
- 3‑D Secure wasn't completed. The confirmation window closed or didn't load — retry in a regular browser.
- Account region doesn't match the card country. Many services compare the account country, IP and card BIN. A big mismatch is a common trigger for fraud checks.
- Too many attempts. A string of declines can temporarily block payments. Wait before trying again.
- A typo in the details. Copy the number, expiry and CVC from the dashboard instead of typing them.
If a payment won't go through and the reason isn't obvious, contact support from your dashboard — we'll look at the merchant's response and suggest next steps.
What the card costs
- Card issue — 1,990 ₽ once, no monthly fee.
- USDT balance top-up — 4%; balance-to-card transfer — 0%.
- Successful payment — $0.50. API credits are usually billed in US dollars; in some countries Anthropic bills the subscription in local currency, and with a Singapore card and address that may be Singapore dollars. Check the currency at checkout: if you're billed in US dollars, there's no conversion.
- Charges in another currency — 3% for conversion.
- Declined transaction — $0.60.
- Closing the card — $5, but not less than 3% of the remainder. The rest returns to your Orris balance.
Full details are on the pricing page. Note that every API credit purchase is a separate transaction with a $0.50 fee. If you use the API heavily, it's cheaper to top up less often in larger amounts.
Tips for regular Claude users
- Keep at least one renewal's worth of money on the card.
- Put the subscription and the API on different cards: spending is easier to track, and you can switch one off independently.
- Don't change your profile country or billing details without a reason — frequent changes make fraud systems nervous.
- If you use other AI tools, the same card works for them too: see our guides for ChatGPT Plus and Midjourney, Cursor and other AI tools.
FAQ
FAQ
Can I pay for Claude Pro with a Russian card?
No. International services don't accept Mir, and Russian-issued Visa/Mastercard cards don't process international payments, so Anthropic declines them. You need a card issued outside Russia.
Are API credits included in Claude Pro?
No. The claude.ai subscription and API credits are billed separately: the former in claude.ai settings, the latter in Anthropic's developer console.
Can I enable API auto-reload with an Orris card?
Yes, as long as the card has enough money. If the card runs dry, the auto-reload is declined, and a declined transaction costs $0.60.
Do I need documents to get the card?
An email or Telegram account is enough to sign up. In some cases documents may be requested, as required by law or the issuer's rules.
How do I cancel and get the remainder back?
Cancel the subscription in Claude's settings and close the card in your Orris dashboard. The remainder returns to your Orris balance minus a $5 fee, but not less than 3% of the remainder.
Summary
You can pay for Claude Pro and Anthropic API credits with a foreign virtual card. Sign up for Orris, top up with USDT, issue a card for 1,990 ₽, move the amount you need onto it and pay for the subscription on claude.ai or for credits in the console. The payment usually goes through on the first try; when it doesn't, it's most often the card balance, 3‑D Secure or a region mismatch.
